Asthma Foundation of India

Asthma Foundation of India: " Several million people worldwide are affected by Asthma. While considerable progress has been made towards controlling and managing this ailment, substantial efforts are required to understand the causes and develop cures.
Asthma is a major public health problem in India. It is estimated that 10% of the population i.e. approximately 100 million people suffer from asthma causing morbidity resulting in loss of productive days and in extreme situations mortality. Environmental pollution in urban areas further aggravates the problem. Asthma affects all age groups, male and female and all income groups.
The Asthma Foundation of India is a step towards effective control of this health hazard. AFI seeks to increase awareness of asthma and to improve the quality of health care available to treat asthma. AFI is a part of the Global campaign against Asthma.
The Foundation was incorporated in April 1998, as a not-for-profit organisation under the aegis of Dr. Raj B. Singh, Apollo Hospitals and Mr. T. Shankar, CEO, Management Solutions.
A group of founder members have come together to form the Board of Trustees. The Foundation is registered under sec. 80G of the Income Tax Act.A unique feature of the foundation is that both medical and non-medical persons will take an active part in the foundation at all levels. The membership is open to all Indian citizens."
